Hi There Creative Soul!
Welcome to my Art World

Day 4/100 Rimu Cone, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson and Sepia Ink.

Today, while out for my walk I was attracted to the Rimu windfall along the path.
These lovely rich brown twigs with small cones all came down in the winds we have had for the past few days.
The Rimu (Dacrydium cupressinum) is the most common native conifer you’ll find around New Zealand.
It is a beautiful tree who branches droop, making it look quite distinct from all the other trees in the Bush. They have quite a magical look about them, like some from an illustrated fairytale book.

My Palette today is still the same as the last 4 days.
Burnt Sienna and Sepia Ink have been my base colours then with the addition of another colour I have brought out the distinction in each piece I’ve collected from nature.
i am really enjoying the colour studies as well as the nature studies. These lovely images are beginning to become more like dreamy landscapes.
Seems appropriate!
Coincidentally, the sunset tonight look remarkably like this too!

As I promised... I’m also going to share with you some of my favourite materials.
The things I can’t live without in my studio.

Watercolour Paints. I adore Qor watercolour paints. They have beautiful intense colour and the way they burst into the wet paper when making wet on wet paintings is so exciting!
Inks. I’m still experimenting with the different brands. Liquitex is accessible for me to get from my local Art Supplies Shop and I really love their colour range.
Brushes. My tried and True brushes are the Chinese calligraphy brushes. They make beautiful marks, hold heaps of water and come to a perfect pointed tip, super fine for detailing.
My newest brushes are the Athena Lovia. These where a gift from my wonderful thoughtful husband, and they are so nice to use! Glide across the page easily and have a super fine tip.
The other thing here are my dip pen for ink illustration, a trusty old pencil and eraser.

Hope this inspires you to try out some of my favourite materials!

See you tomorrow for Day 5
